Meaning: In whose family there is no fault? Whom do diseases not grieve? Who does not get sorrow and who is constantly happy, that is, something is lacking everywhere, and this is a bitter truth.

Following are the seven chakras-

1. Muladhara or Root chakra-Muladhara is the basic foundation in our body. It is associated with the base of the spine, the pelvic floor, and the first three vertebrate, and responsible for an individual’s sense of security and survival. It’s sturdy, stabilize and supportive, keeping everything safely connected as long as it’s function properly. It also connects with our basic needs such as food, water, shelter, and safety. It influences our passion, creativity, youthfulness, vitality and our basic survival instincts. It also represents our physical strength, our sexuality and the flight and fight response that tends to activate within our body when we sense danger.

Physical location-The bottom of our spine(where our tailbone is located.).

Colour-“Red”-The root chakra is represented by the colour red, which is an indication for the need for logic, realistic thinking and order in our lives.

Sense-“Smell”-This chakra is associated with the sense of smell within the body and is attached to the gland known as Gonads.

Elements-Earth

Bija mantra-Lam

Message-“I exist”-live your life proudly.

Issues-When this chakra is blocked we may feel threatened, panicked and anxious. This anxiety can easily infiltrate our thoughts, making everything suddenly feel uncertain. We may also find that we can’t concentrate and that we are constantly preoccupied with worries about our well being. Physical issues potentially caused by a blocked root chakra include a sore lower back, low energy levels, and cold extremities.

When all is well with this chakra, we feel secure, calm, and anchored in reality. We will be bold enough to tackle new challenges and w feel confident doing so. To keep this chakra healthy, exercises such as dancing, jogging or jumping are beneficial.

2. Svadhisthana or Pelvic chakra-The Svadhisthana is the key to our creative energy. It is not only related to pursuits of artistry and imagination but also our sexuality and our capacity for change in all areas of life.

Physical location-In the middle of the abdomen, roughly two inches below the belly button.

Colour-“Orange”-It represents the colour orange, which tends to impact our ability to be happy and joyful, compassionate, creative and passionate. It also influences our desires, sexuality and our reproductive functions among st others.

Sense-“Taste”-It is connected with our sense of taste, and it impacts several organs and glands, including the bladder, the lymphatic system, pelvis, the large intestine and the female reproductive organs.

Element-Water

What it controls-Our sense of abundance, well being, pleasure and sexuality.

Bija mantra-Vam

Message-“I desire’-Live your passion, whatever that may be. What's our dream? How do we desire to live? claim our dreams and go out and make them a reality-give birth to our dreams.

Issues-When this chakra is not balanced we feel uninspired, bored, or listless, emotionally unstable, guilty. This can also be associated with physical sexual dysfunction, while also potentially experiencing fear of change, depression, or addiction-like behaviours.

When this chakra is aligned, we feel like great; we are friendly, passionate, and successfully fulfilled while also eliciting feelings of wellness, abundance, pleasure and joy. When this is balanced, we feel creative, positive, and receptive to change-like the ocean and its tides, we are in the flow.

3. Manipura or Solar plexus chakra-Manipura means” lustrous” gem in Sanskrit. It is the action and balance chakra that focuses on individual willpower, personal power, and commitment. It influences both our personal and professional success.

What it controls-Self worth, confidence and self-esteem.

Bija mantra-Ram

Message-‘I controls”-Go forth and control your destiny and happiness-You deserve it.

Issues-When it is not aligned or blocked, we lack courage, have low self-esteem, and feel stagnant and inert. We may fell overwhelming amounts of shame and self-doubt. Physical difficulties associated with a blocked Manipura chakra may include digestive discomforts, like tummy ache of some kind such as digestive issue or gas and troubles with memory.

When this chakra is balanced, we feel alive and have self-esteem and confidence to take action and be productive. By working on this chakra, we can awaken our true personal inner power and work through our fear of taking risks.

4. Anahata or Heart chakra-Anahata chakra is connected to our capacity for love and compassion in all their forms. It is described as a bridge between the mind, body and spirit. This chakra is the bridge between the lower chakras(associated with materiality) and the upper chakras (associated with spirituality)

Location –Centre of the chest, just above the guts .

Colour-“Green” It relates naturally to love and compassion, being at our heart centre.

Sense-Touch

Elements-Air

Bija mantra-Yam

Message-“I love”-Let your heart energy flow freely in and out. Be open to receiving the love that is available to you now.

Issues-When this chakra is blocked, we become possessive and codependent, and may form dysfunctional relationships. We may also stay isolated for fear of rejection, difficulty in fully opening up to the people. When this chakra is not aligned it can give way to grief, anger, jealousy, fear of betrayal, and hate towards yourself and others.

Physically this chakra relates to the heart the thymus gland(which plays a vital role in our endocrine and lymphatic system), the lungs and the breasts. When this chakra is aligned and balanced, love and compassion are flowing freely-both in terms of giving it out and getting it back. Its the awakening to the spiritual awareness, forgiveness and service. Healthy relationships, pet, family, even appreciation of beauty and nature enhance the health of this chakra.

5. Vishuddha or Throat chakra-The throat chakra gives voice to the heart chakra and controls our ability to communicate. Physically throat chakra is associated with thyroid, parathyroid, jaw, neck, empathise and communicate with others.

Location-In the middle of the throat.

Element-Sound

What it controls-Communication, self-expression, and truth.

Bija mantra-Ham

Message-“I express”-Do not suppress your beautiful voice. Speak your truth, singing your joy, emanate your love through the vibration of your words.

Issues-If this chakra is blocked or misaligned it primarily manifests in an ability to say. We feel like we have trouble finding words to say how we truly feel. We may also be over-talkative and listen to others.

When it is functioning at full capacity, it allows us to express ourselves truly and clearly. Physically this chakra is associated with the thyroid, parathyroid, jaw, neck, mouth, tongue and larynx. Physically, this blockage can manifest itself as a sore throat, thyroid issues, neck and shoulder stiffness, or tension, headaches. Singing, chanting and breathing exercises can enhance the health of this chakra.

6. Ajna or third eye chakra-Ajna chakra roughly translates to the centre of knowledge or monitoring. This chakra is associated with our intuition, or sixth sense, and governs how rest of the chakra function. Think of it as the eye of the soul, it registers information beyond the surface level. It is also responsible for all things between us and the outside world, serving as a bridge between the two, allowing us to see through any illusions and drama to see the clear picture. Insight, intuition, awareness and guidance are the properties of this sixth chakra.

Location-It is located between the eyebrows.

Colour-Indigo

Sense-“Thoughts”-Our ability to rationalise, use logic and conduct and analysis to reach reasonable conclusions.

Elements-Telepathic communication

What it controls-Intuition, imagination and wisdom.

Bija mantra-Sham or Aum

Message-“I am a witness”-Be hospitable your inner guidance. Listen to your thoughts, they will assist you on the right path.

Issues-We may have trouble accessing our intuition, trusting our inner voice, recalling important facts, or learning new skills. We might also be struck by our inability to make decisions. This is like psychological paralysis. If this chakra is blocked, we might have trouble sleeping, feel clumsy, and struggle to learn new things.

When this chakra opens, it opens our mind to the bigger picture and different perspectives, and it helps us receive the wisdom that cannot be seen or heard by ordinary senses. Organs including the pituitary gland, pineal gland, eye, head, and lower part of the brain are said to be ruled by the third eye chakra. Those who have a harmoniously balanced third eye chakra have a charming and charismatic mind, they do not fear death or troubles, and they also have powerful telepathic abilities.

7. Sahasrara or crown chakra-The crown chakra is the highest chakra, sits at the crown of the head and represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually. It is also referred to as the “Thousand petal lotus” chakra. It is the centre of enlightenment and our spiritual connection to our higher selves, others, and ultimately the divine.

Physical location-A little above the top of the head.

Colour-Violet/white

Elements-Thought/Divine consciousness.

Bija mantra-OM

Message-: I am that I am”.

What it controls-Inner and outer beauty and spiritual connections.

Issues-A crown chakra blockage may create a feeling of isolation or emotional distress-basically feeling disconnected from everyone and everything. We might not see the beauty in the world at all. When it is closed we are attached to the physical world and pleasure, we think happiness can come only from the outside, and we suffer.

It is vital in creating a life you love, and in attaining a feeling of peace. When it is opened, we will be in tune with beauty in the world around us. It can provide us with some extremely powerful abilities and potentials, including the ability to transcends all barriers created by the law of nature, to possess an increased awareness of death and immortality, heightened spiritual powers. The realizations that occur within us are said to be along the lines of pure awareness, consciousness, undivided, and all expansive. Basically, bigger than ourselves and yet part of the giant universe. It connects to beauty itself and the spiritual realms. It helps us to understand who we are beyond our physical self-than you are a spiritual being having a human experience.

Through Yoga practice such as Pranayam, meditation and kriyas, Ida and Pingla(emotion and consciousness) are purified and brought into balance, and eventually, the energy flows upwards along the Sushumna Nadi to the Sahasrara chakra. Purification of the Nadis and chakra means to develop their sensitivity through the regular practice of Yoga. At the beginning certain emotions can also become stronger depending upon our predisposition, but when the wisdom of Kundalini awakens all these phenomena are only temporary and disappears.

The chakras work on several levels and aspects of our existence. Important glands and nerves nodes are located within the areas of the main chakras and as we open and harmonise the chakras with breathing exercises, meditation, asanas and the repetition of mantras we also influence and balance the physical functions associated with them.

The Chakras

My younger Son Aarav
                          CHAKRAS
Chakra means “wheel” or “disc” in Sanskrit. They are concentrated energy centres of the body. A chakra operates like a powerhouse in the way it generates and stores energy, with energy from cosmos pulled in more strongly at these points. As previously explained, the main Nadis, Ida & Pingla, runs along the spinal column in a curved path and crosses one another several times. At the point of intersection, they come in contact with the divine energy of the Susmna Nadi, forming strong energy centres known as Chakras. They are points in the subtle body that are vortexes of energy. When energy becomes blocked in chakras, it triggers physical, mental or emotional imbalances that manifest in symptoms such as anxiety, lethargy or poor digestion. Important glands and nerve nodes are located within the area of the main chakras, and as we open and harmonise the chakras with breathing exercises, meditation asanas and the repetition of mantra we also influence and balance the physical functions associated with them.

There are three types of energy centres in the human body.
1. Pashu or animal (lower) Chakras-They are located in the region between the toes to the pelvic region. The entire region from the toes to the pelvic region contains the” lower” or “animal” sphere of consciousness, a state of consciousness at a lower level of development than the human. In the embryonic stage of development, human goes through the same phase as animals, and even show short term external characteristic of fish, reptiles and amphibians. Certainly, these attributes recede, but the progression of growth within the womb clearly indicates that the remnants of these evolutionary stages still exists in our genetic makeup, and are stored within our DNA. These qualities or legacies of animal consciousness lies in lower chakras. They influence on our consciousness and our psyche.

To be a complete person, we need the complete body, the upper as well as lower limbs. Therefore the lower parts of the body and the lower energy centres should not be totally disregarded. Seven lower chakras are corresponding to the seven lower lokas or lower consciousness.

2. They lie along the spinal column- They are five in numbers namely-Muladhara,Svadhisthana, Manipura, Anahata and Vishuddha. These five chakras are associated with physical elements-earth, water, fire, air and space.

3. Daivik or Higher (Divine) chakras-They are located between the top of the spine and the crown of the head. They are two in numbers namely-Ajna and Sahasrara chakra. These two chakras are thought to connect us beyond the earthly realm, so they are associated with the elements of light and cosmic energy.

Nadis

Location of the Nadi in our body
As per scriptures from Muladhara Chakra, the network of Nadi originate in our pranic body. Muladhara is the place where our dormant consciousness lies hidden. Ida, Pingala and Sushumna originate here. Ida and Pingala then Flow alternately, coiling around the spinal passage from left to right. Sushmna flows straight up through the middle of our body. Ida emerges from the left of the Muladhara. Pingala emerges from the right and sushmna flows straight up through the centre. (‘Mul ‘means original or basic and aadhar means foundation or base. Therefore Muladhara means original Foundation or prime Foundation). From Muladhara chakra, Ida curves to the left and crosses Swadhisthana, go to the right to the to Manipur, then to the left to Anahata, to the right to Vishuddhi, to the left to Anjana at top of the spine and then straight to Sahasra. Pingla follows a similar path, but on the opposite side. As Pingla goes to the right, Ida crosses to the left and so on. As Ida and Pingala cross over at each Chakra, their energy current gets scattered or distributed via the network of Nadi to all the respective organs and Parts of the body. In this way, the Matrix of Nadi carries these two opposite forces to Every cell, organs and parts of the body. At those places where the power of radiance of the Sun and the moon meet, together with the strengthening effect of the Sushmna, very powerful energy centre called chakras forms.

Granthi

At several places along the spinal column Nadis form a type of knote (Granthi) each of which constitutes a key point in spiritual development. There are three Granthi or notes in the physical body which are an obstacle on the part of awakened Kundalini. They represent the level of awareness where the power of Maya, ignorance and attachment to material things is especially strong. When these notes are Untied the energy located within them activated and the hidden powers (Siddhis)) are given to us as healing powers, the seeing of past and future, the seeing of Auras, and other supernatural abilities. The three Granthis are termed as Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra.

1. Brahma Granthi - Muladhara Chakra is the region for the function of Brahma granthi. It is associated with Tamash - negativity, lethargy and ignorance. It incorporates attachment to physical pleasure, material objects and excessive selfishness.

2. Vishnu Granthi - Anahat Chakra is the reason where Vishnu Granthi operates. It is connected with Rajas- the tendency towards passion, ambition and assertiveness. It is associated with the bondage of emotional attachment and attachment to the people and inner psychic visions.

3. Rudra Granthi - Anjana Chakra is the reason where Rudra Granthi functions. It is associated with the Sattva - delight, happiness, peace, satisfaction, self-control, selflessness. It is associated with attachment to siddhis, psychic phenomenon and the concept of ourselves as individuals. When this note is Untied we became selfless and our ego vanishes.

Only when harmony and balance prevail between the moon and sun system are we healthy and capable of developing further mentally and spiritually. Only one channel of consciousness flows - the Spiritual energy of Sushmna nadi when the Three main nadi Unite. When we are in deep meditation or Samadhi this energy flows process sushmna nadi. As long as sushmna is inactive we are plagued by constantly changing thoughts, emotions, worries etc. But once the Sushmna begins to flow the waves of mind come to rest and we bath in the bliss of diving consciousness. As long as either ida aur pingla predominants, sushmna stay closed and the power of kundli lies dormant. Most people live and die in ida and pingla, sushmna, the central space remains dormant. Sushmna is the pathway through which the Kundalini Rises and forms basis for the progressive awakening as well as higher knowledge.

Therefore purification and balancing of ida and Pingala is extremely important so that our mind is controlled, then sushmna the most important nadi begins to flow. If ida flows predominantly, the mind will be over active. If pingla flows predominantly, the body will be restless. You may be a man, but if your ida nadi is more active, the feminine qualities may be dominant in you. You may be a woman, but if your pingala is more active, the masculine qualities may be dominant in you..

The Nadi shodhana, alternate nostril breathing is the method used to balance ida and pingala. Shodhan means cleansing in Sanskrit. This Practice is effective because the ida nadi is directly connected to the left nostril, and the Pingala Nadi is connected to the right nostril. A few rounds off the basic Pranayam technique at the and of an asana practise are excellent way to help restore equilibrium between the two nadis.
